Engineering Design Project Highlights

Tank Condition Analysis (2026)

An industrial manufacturer experienced a loss of containment due to a crack in a storage tank. Airy Point Engineering was engaged to evaluate the condition of an existing tank and support repair planning through an engineering assessment and vendor engagement.

Scope of Work:

  • Site Evaluation: Performed an on‑site assessment to review tank condition and operational considerations.
  • Engineering Assessment: Prepared a technical memorandum outlining observed deficiencies, inspection findings, and recommended repair requirements.
  • Vendor Coordination: Engaged tank supplier and repair vendors to support with pricing inputs for repair options.
  • Technical Review and QA: Reviewed vendor proposals and finalized engineering documentation in alignment with EGBC and internal quality requirements.

Airy Point provided a timely response to the client's urgent need. Our documented reporting provided the client with an objective technical assessment to support informed decision‑making and effective repair planning.

UBC Energy and Water Services BRDF Dust Mitigation FEED Study (2025)

The University of British Columbia Energy and Water Services (UBCEWS) operates the Bioenergy Research and Demonstration Facility (BRDF) on UBC’s Vancouver campus. Airy Point Engineering was engaged to complete a Front End Engineering Design (FEED) study to evaluate and mitigate dust generation in the fuel storage and truck unloader areas.

Scope of Work:

  • Site Assessment: Reviewed existing conditions, operational challenges, and safety considerations within the fuel storage and unloading areas.
  • Dust Mitigation Evaluation: Investigated suitable dust collection technologies and identified feasible equipment locations, including maintenance access requirements.
  • Engineering Design Development: Prepared multidisciplinary FEED inputs, including mechanical, electrical, and civil considerations with preliminary construction layout sketches.
  • Cost and Phasing Analysis: Developed a Class D cost estimate, preliminary bill of materials, and project execution phasing plan.

Airy Point Engineering provided UBCEWS with a clear technical path forward to improve operational safety and support future detailed design, budgeting and construction planning.

Metro Vancouver Regional District Sludge Thickener Overflow Access Installation (2025)

Metro Vancouver Regional District (MVRD) operates the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant (IIWWTP) in Delta, British Columbia. Airy Point Engineering was engaged to assess a sludge thickener overflow box and define requirements for safe external access, eliminating confined space hazards.

Scope of Work:

  • Site Evaluation: Conducted a site visit to review existing conditions of the overflow box and surrounding concrete structure.
  • Condition Assessment: Observed deterioration of internal concrete slab and exterior cracks; performed hammer sounding on accessible areas.
  • Access Planning: Evaluated feasibility of constructing a permanent side-wall opening for safe access.
  • Recommendations: Proposed Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods to assess internal wall condition prior to design and construction.
  • Reporting: Delivered a sealed technical memo summarizing findings and outlining next steps for engineering design.

Airy Point Engineering provided strategic recommendations to reduce uncertainty and support MVRD in achieving safe and reliable access for future maintenance and repair work.

Applied Industrial Technologies – Lube Oil System Design EOR (2025)

Applied Industrial Technologies (AIT) is supporting upgrades at the Lois and Powell Lakes Power Generation Stations in British Columbia. Airy Point Engineering was engaged to provide sealed engineering documents and design support for the Lube Oil System, ensuring compliance with EGBC authentication requirements.

Scope of Work:

  • Mechanical Engineering: Reviewed mechanical scope for compliance and acceptance with Industry Standards.
  • EI&C Engineering: Checked electrical and instrumentation panel designs.
  • Civil/Structural Engineering: Verified skid design and completed structural stress analysis report.
  • Other: Assemble and maintain records in accordance with EGBC requirements.
  • EOR Support: Once all design records were reviewed and minor design changes complete, Airy Point provided sealed design drawings for submission to the client.

Airy Point Engineering delivered authenticated engineering documentation and strategic design solutions to support AIT in achieving regulatory compliance and reliable system performance for power station upgrades.

Metro Vancouver Regional District MVRD Grit Pump Replacement Airy Point Engineering

Metro Vancouver Regional District Grit Pump Replacement FEED (2025)

The Metro Vancouver Regional District (MVRD) operates the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant (IIWWTP) in Richmond, British Columbia. Airy Point Engineering was engaged to develop a front-end engineering design (FEED) and cost estimate for the replacement and relocation of Grit Pump #1.

Scope of Work:

  • Site Investigation & Design Basis: Conducted a site visit and developed a design strategy to replace the aging pump with a standardized model, improving accessibility and minimizing piping changes.
  • Multidisciplinary Engineering Review: Evaluated mechanical, electrical, and civil infrastructure, including pump sizing, piping layout, MCC capacity, and structural support requirements.
  • Redline Drawings & Documentation: Provided redlined drawings and technical documentation to support installation planning, including piping sections, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
  • Cost Estimating & Execution Planning: Delivered an AACE Class 4 estimate for engineering, materials, and installation, including budget pricing for equipment, piping, valves, and electrical components.

Airy Point Engineering provided strategic engineering support to help MVRD modernize critical infrastructure at IIWWTP, improving system reliability, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
