FortisBC Energy Inc. EMB Crossing Report Review Owner's Engineer Airy Point Engineering Services

FortisBC Energy Inc. Bridge Crossing Assessment Review (2024)

FortisBC Energy Inc. (FEI) operates natural gas transmission and distribution systems across British Columbia. Airy Point Engineering was engaged as the Owner's Engineer to review and approve third-party inspection reports for five separate Pipeline Crossing Assessments.

Scope of Work:

  • Engineering Drawings Review: Pulled out and reviewed general arrangement and other relevant engineering drawings.
  • Inspection Report Review: Conducted detailed reviews of inspection reports prepared by EMB Management. Provided comments on scope inclusions, code compliance, industry standards and quality.
  • Meetings and Coordination: Participated in meetings with EMB and FEI to discuss findings and ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Technical Support: Provided technical support and recommendations based on the reviews to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

Airy Point Engineering's expert engineers provided comprehensive engineering reviews and support to ensure the integrity and safety of FEI's pipeline crossings. We are committed to contributing to the reliable operation of FRI's vast infrastructure.

Airy Point Engineering Gygax Associates BC Ferries Hydraulics Design and Engineering

Gygax Engineering Associates Ltd. Hydraulic System Performance Specification (2024)

Gygax Engineering Associates Ltd. (GEA) operates in Vancouver, British Columbia, providing structural engineering services. Airy Point Engineering was engaged to develop a hydraulic system performance specification for BC Ferries (BCF) port upgrades on the Crofton to Vesuvius route.

Scope of Work:

  • Hydraulic System Performance Specification: Prepared a comprehensive specification to ensure upgrades met industry and BCF standards.
  • Site Layout Drawings: Development of site layout drawings for Crofton and Vesuvius Berths, ensuring compliance with provided standards and examples.
  • HPU-PLC Enclosure Review: Review and update the system HPU enclosure and provided a simple hydraulic piping plan.

Unfortunately following the detailed review and provision of a hydraulic performance specification, this project was paused by BC Ferries. Airy Point Engineering hopes to continue detailed engineering support to GEA, if and when BC Ferries reactivates this initiative.

University of British Columbia Heat Exchanger BRDF research engineering Compress evaluation TSBC

UBC Energy & Water Services Heat Exchanger Evaluation (2024)

The University of British Columbia Energy and Water Services (UBC EWS) operates the campus district energy system, integrating traditional and innovative energy solutions. Airy Point Engineering Services was engaged to evaluate steam and condensate heat exchangers for a potential increase in documented operating pressure, improving consistency across the steam-to-hot water system.

Scope of Work:

  • System Optimization: Supported UBC EWS in standardizing pressure design across their infrastructure.
  • Heat Exchanger Assessment: Evaluated existing equipment using COMPRESS for increased operating pressure feasibility.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Prepared technical documentation for submission to Technical Safety British Columbia (TSBC).

This project strengthens Airy Point’s role as a trusted engineering partner for UBC EWS, providing technical expertise in system evaluation and regulatory compliance.

FortisBC Energy Pressure Control Engineering Airy Point Natural Gas Piping Instrumentation Nelson

FortisBC Energy Inc. Station Capacity Upgrade Studies (2024)

FortisBC Energy Inc. (FEI) operates natural gas transmission and distribution systems throughout British Columbia. Airy Point Engineering Services was engaged to evaluate four pressure control and measurement stations under an active Master Service Agreement (MSA).

Scope of Work:

  • Site Evaluation: Conducted thorough investigations into each site's future process and capacity requirements.
  • Capacity & Reliability Analysis: Equipment and infrastructure evaluated for long-term use, considering equipment operating life, capacity, and compliance with FEI design standards.
